Interview with Ms. Blazich

Ms. Blazich is a Forensics, Living Environment, and Science 8 teacher at North. She is loved by her students, colleagues, and friends. I had the opportunity to interview her about teaching experience and got to know her more. She was my Living Environment teacher last year and, in my opinion, is the best teacher you could possibly ask for. Here are her responses to the following questions: 

 

How long have you been working at North? 

“This is my 4th year (tenure). I started to teach during the COVID year in 2019-2020.” 

 

What classes/courses do you teach? 

“I teach Forensics, Living Environment, and Science 8.” 

 

Do you coach any sports teams or afterschool activities? 

“Junior High Track and Varsity Kickline.” 

 

What do you love most about teaching? 

“I love giving to other students and getting to share my scientific experiences with them.” 

 

Who is your favorite singer? 

“Taylor Swift. It changes on the day for me.” 

 

When did you know that you wanted to be a teacher? 

“When I was in elementary school, I would go to my aunt’s classroom and help her setup over the summer.” 

 

What college did you go to? 

“I went to Fordham University.” 

 

Did you do any sports? 

“I did track and managed the softball and volleyball teams at my school.” 

 

What majors did you study in college and what degrees did you earn? 

 “I earned my master’s degree in teaching adolescent biology and bachelor’s in biology.” 

 

What is your favorite food? 

“Lobster roll.” 

 

If you could teach another subject, what would it be? 

“I would teach art. I think it would be fun. I enjoy doing crafts outside of school.” 

 

How did you become a teacher at Valley Stream North? 

“It was the first job I applied to. I went through many interviews and did my demo lesson with the current seniors (8th graders at the time).” 

 

What was the second job that you were going to pick instead of being a teacher? 

“I would have worked in a lab.” 

 

What are some of your favorite hobbies? 

“Reading, baking, and crafting.” 

 

What is your favorite subject? Why? 

“Science. I like doing labs and there many different things that you can learn about, from Earth science to Living Environment, to Chemistry.” 

 

What made you choose Science as the subject that you were going to teach? 

“It has always been my favorite learning subject in school. I went to a DNA learning center at Cold Spring Harbor.” 

 

What is your favorite dessert? 

“Soft serve ice cream. “ 

 

What is your favorite book? 

“It’s a tie between Little Women by Greta Gerwig and Beach Read by Emily Henry for me.” 

 

What high school did you go to? 

“Our Lady of Mercy in Syosset.” 

 

What was your favorite year of high school/education? Why? 

“My sophomore year. We got to go to on a lot of cool field trips. We got to go to Disney world.” 

 

What is your favorite color/style of clothing? 

“Pink and navy are my favorite colors of clothing.”
