Lemonade Stand in the Rain
Â
So…Â
Â
It rained.Â
Â
Not a dramatic downpour.Â
Â
Just enoughÂ
to soak the cardboard signÂ
and blur the markerÂ
right through the word Forever.Â
Â
I had set up my little standÂ
on our special corner,Â
pitcher glistening in the sun,Â
cups lined up like promises.Â
Â
Freshly squeezed.Â
Extra sweet.Â
Two straws.Â
Â
And then the cloudsÂ
decided they had other plans.Â
Â
There was no lightning strike.Â
No evil villain plotting this downpour.Â
Just weather doing what weather does,Â
showing up uninvitedÂ
and staying longer than anyone hoped.Â
Â
Now I’m standing hereÂ
with damp bootsÂ
and diluted lemonade,Â
watching the sugar settle stubbornlyÂ
at the bottom.Â
Â
I’m not okay!Â
Let’s not exaggerate.Â
Â
I keep glancing down the streetÂ
like maybe you’ll drive back,Â
asking if we can do this all over againÂ
with an umbrella this time.Â
Â
But the forecast is the forecast.Â
And you’re somewhereÂ
learning how to build better shelter.Â
Â
So here’s what I’ll do:Â
Â
I’ll wring out the sign.Â
I’ll redraw the letters.Â
Maybe not Forever this time…Â
Maybe just Today.Â
Â
I’ll taste the lemonadeÂ
even if it’s a little watered down.Â
I’ll add more sugar if I have to.Â
Â
Because the thing about meÂ
is that I like making things sweet.Â
I like setting up stands.Â
I like believing the sun will show upÂ
eventually.Â
Â
And maybe tomorrowÂ
I’ll be readyÂ
with my pitcher in hand!Â
