I’m Logan Balsan, with a new idea for a running article in this section: song recommendations. I am a member of both North’s Band and Orchestra, and I love playing and listening to several music genres, from classical music to the modern day. I am sure you can add a new song to your workout playlist or to your casual listening playlist from this list. I will be writing in each issue of the North Star until June, so each article will have five songs that I personally recommend. Song #1- I first started listening to this song when a friend recommended it to me. One of the most popular Beach Boys hits, whether you are actually on the beach, or longing for summer to come, this song can fill that void. With the catchy and groovy guitar riff played multiple times throughout the song, you can totally feel the beat and sing along to this song. This is also on the Varsity Boys Volleyball Warmup Playlist. Song #2- This is personally one of the songs I listen to while I drive to and from school. The drum set and the guitar riffs in the beginning set the tone for the rest of the song. First introduced to this song over the summer of 2020, I have grown to enjoy several of E.L.O’s songs, and “Don’t Bring Me Down” my favorite. I sing along whenever it comes on, and it’s even on my workout playlist. Song #3- I started listening to this song almost two weeks ago, and I mainly do so while working out as well as on my car playlist. This song motivates me and helps me raise my mindset whether it be prior to a volleyball game or the end of a workout set. This is also on the Varsity Boys Volleyball Warmup Playlist. Song #4- I first heard this song on Channel 25, aka Classic Rewind, on the radio as my family and I were travelling home from a trip to Pennsylvania in February. I listen to this song more when I’m winding down or ending a long day at school or work. The acoustic guitar is not as intense or heavy as the electric guitars in both “I Get Around” and “Don’t Bring Me Down,” and is therefore more soothing and comforting. Sometimes I listen to this on my way home from school or work when I want to relax and unwind. Song #5- Any fellow fans of country rock? This isn’t Johnny Cash, but it’s one of my favorites that I sing along to often in the car. The profound use (and battle of) of violins bring out the old country style in this song. If you like country rock and haven’t heard of this song, I highly recommend you check this out! Alright, folks. That’s a wrap for my first song recommendation article. See you next issue!     Back to Articles Editorial Back to Sections DeBlame is on De Blasio By Craig Papajohn-Shaw Volume 1 Issue 3 December 16, 2020 Image provided by AP News, background image by Craig Papajohn-Shaw Taking office in 2014, self-proclaimed progressive Bill de Blasio (D) entered the mayorship of New York City with the hope of further building on the success of his predecessor, Michael Bloomberg (I). De Blasio, now 59, has completely let the city run rampant. His family values and unprecedented progressive agenda at that time, were all he required to be elected as, debatably, the most powerful mayor in the United States. De Blasio’s directionless agenda is clear in the sanitation as well as the homeless problem in the city. While some may want to believe that his progressive agenda of universal Pre-K, extended paid sick leave, and overseeing the 15-dollar minimum wage hike was a step in the right direction, his insincere, arrogant, behaviors and decisions should not be present in a leader. De Blasio’s low approval ratings, hovering around the 40 percent range, can be attributed to the severity of the homelessness problem as well the sanitation of the city. In 2018, a report released by BusyBee, which combines data from the Environmental Protection Agency, displayed infographics that indicates New York City leads other cities in its “dirtiest index” of 427.9. While this is horrendous in itself, it should be noted that the mayor has also done the bare minimum to fix the rising homeless problem. With over 40,000 New Yorkers living on the street, one would think the mayor would put many of his efforts into mending this issue. This is not to mention there is an all-time high of 20,210 single adults sleeping in shelters. It was back in December of 2019 when De Blasio made a promise saying, “We will help every last person experiencing long-term homelessness off our streets and we will do more than we ever thought possible to bring them home.” He said he would do this by implementing a six-point plan that would marshal critical resources. Since then, the homelessness rate has risen, and while this spike can be partially attributed to the pandemic, the mayor has not solidified further plans or proposed new legislation to help the homeless. Altogether, the response to COVID-19 was mediocre from the mayor. To start off, on March 16 he would attend his Brooklyn gym, even though he can exercise at a local gym in Manhattan instead of traveling over 15 miles each way. It is worth recalling that on this day closures around the nation, including New York City, were beginning to be implemented, with Governor Cuomo expected to close gyms and movie theaters that day. A spokesperson for the mayor stated on the 16th, “The mayor wanted to visit a place that keeps him grounded one last time.” The selfishness of his personal schedule displayed his limited priority for the global pandemic. Furthermore, de Blasio’s attention-seeking attempt at a run for President, where his highest poll ratings in the primaries hit barely one percent, was a distraction from the issues citizens in his own city were facing. Some of de Blasio’s most infamous public embarrassments include the multiple occasions during which he clashes with politicians in his own party such as Representative Alexandria Ocasio Cortez (NY-14), Representative Max Rose (NY-11), and especially with New York’s Governor Andrew Cuomo (D). The strained relationship between him and the governor is prolonged and counterproductive. Throughout the pandemic, there were debacles between himself and the governor, such as when De Blasio announced on April 11th that the New York City public school system would continue distance learning for the remainder of the year. Cuomo quickly opposed this statement, stating, “You can’t make a decision just within New York City without coordinating that decision with the whole metropolitan region, because it all works together.” This is just one instance of many during his six-year tenure in office that the mayor has had issues with the governor. His unwillingness to compromise and follow the chain of command demonstrates his incompetence as a leader, or what many view as petty politics between two politicians that negatively affects so many New Yorkers. With only a year left in office, the race for his seat is in contention with approximately 17 people pledging to run. With COVID cases in New York City once again on the rise, the mayor needs to work cooperatively with politicians, especially those in his own party, in order to help his citizens get through this crisis rather than focusing on his cherished political publicity stunts and power plays with Governor Cuomo. It takes place from 2019-2021, demonstrating its prolonged timeline and modernistic plot points. The novel follows the Delaney siblings after the disappearance of their mother, Joy Delaney. The police soon identify their father, Stan, as a person of interest. As the story progresses, readers eventually discover the circumstances surrounding Joy’s disappearance.     Back to Articles News Back to Sections A Review of the SCOTUS Leak By Everton Prospere Volume 2 Issue 7 June 13, 2022 Image provided by Insider On May 2nd, 2022, POLITICO, a political journalism outlet, released a bombshell report that revealed the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) prematurely voted to overrule the decisions made in the cases Roe vs. Wade ( Roe ) and Planned Parenthood vs. Casey ( Casey ). While the repeal of these cases would be a landmark decision by the court, removing over thirty years of privacy rights, the leak also displayed a rupture in the court’s integrity. The leak of this initial draft majority opinion, written by Associate Justice Samuel Alito, is the first of its kind; in response, Chief Justice John Roberts ordered a federal investigation to apprehend the whistleblower. However, what implications could this leak and the early decision have on the United States and its citizens? To understand this premature decision by the current court, one must dive back to the 1970s, when SCOTUS undertook the case Roe. At the time, the court was led by Chief Justice Warren Burger, who was nominated under President Richard Nixon. Although appointed by a Republican president, the Burger Court established many liberal precedents, the most notable being Roe vs. Wade . According to PBS News Hour, Roe vs. Wade set in place “a constitutional right to an abortion in the United States.” However, most Americans often overlook that Roe vs. Wade was fought under the grounds of privacy rights, meaning the decision protects not only medical confidentiality, but also digital privacy through data collection. The case specifically reviewed the Due Process Clause in the Fourteenth Amendment, which describes that the state governments cannot deprive “life, liberty, or property, without due process of law,” with “due process of law” primarily meaning fair procedures through legislation. Therefore, the repeal of Roe will result in the loss of abortion rights and privacy rights through the internet. In addition, the case Casey must be reviewed. In 1992, SCOTUS, led at the time by Chief Justice William Rehnquist, upheld the decision made by the Burger Court. According to National Public Radio, while the court continued the precedent established in Roe , the ruling in Casey also permitted states to mandate restrictions to abortions, as long as the laws avoided “undue burdens.” In Roe , the Burger Court created a plan to permit abortions through the first trimester of a pregnancy, with limitations in the second and third trimesters with exceptions to the pregnant person’s health. Casey reformed this plan, allowing states to implement restrictions at any time of the pregnancy; however, significant obstacles, also known as the “undue burdens,” cannot be mandated to prevent abortions. It must be noted that the principle of an “undue burden” leaves a very loose interpretation for states to implement legislation. This demonstrates that while Roe established abortion rights, Casey permits more extensive limitations to abortions. Although Casey slightly reversed the progress made to create universal abortion rights, the case still upheld the ruling of Roe to permit abortions in the U.S. However, the premature case, formerly known as Dobbs vs. Jackson Women’s Health Organization ( Dobbs ), forms a greater issue in the fight for abortion rights. A majority of the nine SCOTUS justices apparently ruled in favor of overruling Roe and Casey , meaning privacy rights and, mainly, abortions, will be decided by state legislators. As per the New York Times , thirteen states currently have trigger laws that will take effect immediately if federal abortion protection is revoked. Several of these state laws do not account for rape or incest. The Washington Post reports that an additional thirteen states would also certainly ban abortions or mandate substantial restrictions. Both media outlets outline that 26 states, a majority of the Union, would significantly limit the right to an abortion. While the decision in Dobbs could potentially lead to detrimental effects for women’s rights and a regression in American society to before the 1970s, one must also take into account the leak itself. POLITICO describes that a breach of this magnitude, through a published full draft, has not occurred in the history of SCOTUS. For example, in 1973, a whistleblower also leaked certain deliberations in Roe , but not the full scale official draft. Due to the leak, a complete rift has taken place inside SCOTUS. As Associate Justice Clarence Thomas explains in regard to the situation, “What happened at the court is tremendously bad…I wonder how long we’re going to have these institutions at the rate we’re undermining them. And then I wonder when they’re gone or destabilized, what we will have as a country? And I don’t think the prospects are good if we continue to lose them.” On May 3rd, Roberts ordered the SCOTUS Marshall, Gail Curley, to investigate and apprehend the leaker, which could be a justice, clerk, or any court employee with access to this confidential draft. At the moment, no gains on the whistleblower’s identity have been made. As this is a sensitive and relevant topic, students at Valley Stream North High School were asked to respond to two questions regarding the matter. Below are two responses to the questions. First Interview - Samantha Altieri, junior: 1. What is your opinion on the cases Roe vs. Wade and Planned Parenthood vs. Casey ? Do you agree, disagree, or have a neutral stance with the policy established by the Supreme Court of the United States at the time? “ Roe is an established precedent and the law of the land. Regardless of your opinion on abortion, the right for individuals to seek safe and secure healthcare is enshrined in their 14th amendment rights. Messing around with established SCOTUS precedent will create a whole slew of messes that most people aren’t ready to deal with. Roe was a precedent for 50 years. What’s next? Brown? Loving? The constitution was written 200+ years ago. It’s a living, breathing document that should continue to grow and adapt to the ever changing needs of current American citizens. Technology continues to adapt to fit the needs of individuals, and the constitution should be interpreted in a way that does the same.” 2. What is your stance on the actions committed by the whistleblower who leaked the draft opinion established by the current Supreme Court of the United States regarding Roe vs. Wade and Planned Parenthood vs. Casey? Do you think this action was appropriate, inappropriate, or irrelevant? “I was honestly more angered at what was leaked rather than the leak itself. I do think there are legitimate concerns over who leaked the draft opinion and what this means for the future of the court. Although I’d love to say I have a thoughtful opinion on that, I don’t. Right now I’m primarily concerned with ensuring all individuals have access to lifesaving healthcare. Abolishing Roe and Casey won’t stop abortions, it only stops safe abortions.” Interview two - Anonymous: 3. What is your opinion on the cases Roe vs. Wade and Planned Parenthood vs. Casey ? Do you agree, disagree, or have a neutral stance with the policy established by the Supreme Court of the United States at the time? “I strongly disagree with the decision proposed by Justice Alito. It is a direct attack on the rights of women.” 4. What is your stance on the actions committed by the whistleblower who leaked the draft opinion established by the current Supreme Court of the United States regarding Roe vs. Wade and Planned Parenthood vs. Casey ? Do you think this action was appropriate, inappropriate, or irrelevant? “While I think leaking it may have not been the right choice, what’s done is done, nothing to do now.” Evidently, much controversy revolves around this early majority draft. However, while many Americans consider the significance of the leak, most attention is received by the actual decision itself. Dobbs can potentially change the dynamic of women’s rights and prevent more substantial change from occurring at the federal level. BACK TO TOP

Review by Charles Posada This album contains strong language and violent imagery: LISTENER DISCRETION IS ADVISED On February 26, 2021, Australian Rock Band King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard released their 17th album, L.W.: Exploration Into Microtonal Tuning Vol.3 . L.W. It is the continuation of their last album, K.G.: Exploration Into Microtonal Tuning Vol.2 which was released back on November 11, 2020. Both albums are sequels to the band’s first dive into microtonal tuning Flying Microtonal Banana: Exploration Into Microtonal Tuning Vol.1 which was released on February 24, 2017 (Along with 4 other marvelous albums). Flying Microtonal Banana took a psychedelic rock route. However, K.G. and L.W. were more of a “rainbow” stretching from Rock to Metal along with Turkish Dance music. On L.W. , the band’s music becomes more diverse and more expressive in its lyrics than ever before. Currently, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard consists of 6 members: Stu Mackenzie, (Vocals, Guitars, Keyboards, Piano, Synthesizer, Mellotron, Flute, Bass) Ambrose Kenny Smith, (Vocals, Harmonica, Keyboards.) Joey Walker, (Vocals, Guitars, Bass, Keyboards) Cook Craig, (Vocals, Guitars, Bass, Keyboards) Michael Cavanagh, (Drums, Percussion) and Lucas Skinner (Bass, Keyboards). If Not Now, Then When? The album opens with dramatic metal riffs (a continuation of the previous/last song from K.G “Hungry Wolf Of Fate”) sounding a lot like 70’s rock band Black Sabbath in their “Sweet Leaf” era. As the final riff has been played, you may think that this is a heavy, sludgy metal song. However, that’s where you're wrong – the song is actually a journey into funk. “If Not Now, Then When?” is the band’s debut into a uniquely funk-inspired experiment. The song keeps your feet tapping with deep lyrics about the world around us, with subjects including animal extinction, technology’s advancement and danger, and the increase in global warming. As their first dive into funk music, they have proven once again that they as a band can do any genre whenever they want. O.N.E O.N.E starts with a dreamy, ghostly type of flow with a bluesy harmonica while front man Stu Mackenzie sings in a melancholy tone on “One not everywhere.” The hi-hats then start tapping while the song gets more upbeat, and suddenly it turns into a desert rock tune. The lyrics describe having a nightmare because of animal cruelty and the responsibility humans have regarding animal abuse. The instrumentation is perfectly done with some intense guitar riffs, rumbling drums, and a thunderous bassline. The song’s climax then arrives with an incredible solo by guitarist Joey Walker. It’s somewhat of a standard song when it comes to King Gizzard’s microtonal rock, but this pushes it slightly above their average microtonal rock music. Pleura Pleura sounds like a Krautrock song from the 70’s done by the band “CAN”, with repeating melodies, heavy bass and drums, guitars as backup instruments and very grungy vocals. It's not all heavy however, there are some parts where it gets to a slowed down psychedelic chorus melody. The lyrics give a bit of a throwback to their 2016 - 2017 period of Obscured Mythology: nerdy lyrics with H.P Lovecraft or Robert Graves type descriptions, contrasting with their current modern environmental/activist type messages. With this subject it talks about COVID-19 and how it can destroy the thin membranes in your lungs called pleura. The song also strongly alludes to the past and current political climates, with charged messages directed towards our former President. The Necromancer, the band argues, will greet us all as we all slowly become diseased from COVID-19. It’s dark… both lyrically and instrumentally. Easily one of their best works in recent history. Supreme Ascendancy This is a song coming straight out of a “Kill Bill” movie, filled with sounds of a haunted shrine and a beginning of a big battle with samurai swords. It's all spooky until fast-paced drums kick in and Ambrose Kenny Smith sings “How can you get away with a murder?” A provocative song with powerful anti-religious imagery, this track dives into grievances with the present state of religion in America. Static Electricity The sounds of the wild west. The dust in the wind flowing across the land, nothing but tumbleweed and lurking bandits. Suddenly, the acoustic guitars play in and all the instruments play in a menacing rhythm as if a showdown is about to happen. As the song progresses and becomes faster and more intense, you’ll almost want to ride a horse to this wonderful Spaghetti Western style song with Eastern Turkish style sound. You may assume the song is about something political or environmental. That’s not the case in this one, though, as it talks about a reoccurring character in the band’s discography called Han Tyumi: A curious cyborg who seeks to return to his human self and to seek knowledge of the universe. This marks an unexpected return of the band’s nerdy Sci Fi type lyrics and every King Gizzard fan’s favorite character. East West Link This is the Boogie of the album and almost like the younger brother of “Static Electricity.” It sounds nearly identical to “Static Electricity,” only a bit groovier and faster. This song would definitely be in a Quentin Tarantino movie if he ever made a spaghetti western film, the protagonist and his crew on their way to rob a train filled with a gold. The title and lyrics refer to the “East West Link Project” which was very controversial in Australia. The proposal consisted of building a giant road that connected the east and west part of Australia, potentially damaging the region’s wildlife. The project was cancelled due to lack of convenient transportation and excessive monetary expenses. As the band is from Australia, it’s only reasonable for them to write a boogie rock song about it. Ataraxia Written by Joe Walker, this is probably the only real menacing song on the whole album. This slow song with a heavy Nirvana/Foo Fighters inspired riff feels like it wants to explore but it never does. The vocals are quiet and whispering - almost like ghosts formed a rock band. The song becomes boring at some points, but it makes up with heavy drums and roaring guitar. The song juxtaposes lyrical, mental peace with the instruments dying to explode like a timebomb. This song isn’t the worst they have done. But it certainly could have been improved here and there with maybe more easy-to-listen-to vocals. See Me The keyboards, percussion, and vocals steal the show in the catchiest song in the album. Sounding like a random ringtone with dramatic arrangement, the song has lyrics talking about society being blind to the mess we have made around our planet that is supposed to be our home. The vocals almost sound like Stu Mackenzie about to cry or being very dramatic about the mess we can create. K.G.L.W (Outro) At last, the grand finale. What will it be? Rock? Funk? A genre we have yet to hear? No. instead, the band’s heaviest metal song ever to be composed finishes the album. With inspirations from bands like Sleep and TOOL, K.G.L.W is the ultimate song of the whole album. Chanting vocals repeating the letters “K G L W”. Heavy bass, roaring guitars, and menacing drums give the whole thing its glow. K.G.L.W (Outro) is the older and superior sister to K.G’s version of K.G.L.W. which was more of a warmup session of microtonal tuning unlike L.W’s version of K.G.L.W which feels more like an anthem. The song reaches to the album’s highest climax and ends beautifully with a howl from Stu Mackenzie. What happens after that? Will the next album be yet again another exploration into microtonal tuning? Perhaps something they have not done before? We can only wait and found out what the band has planned for their 18th album… OUTRO A wonderful album overall. Perhaps even better than their previous album “K.G.,” the collection’s occasional rough edges are almost unnoticeable from many of the best highlights this album gives. Even if this album was a horrible take, it was made during a time of pandemic and limited access to sessions, so who would be able to blame them? This album was a perfect second half of the band’s name as well as an improvement of the band's creativity. As of right now, King Gizzard And The Lizard Wizard promises to release 3 albums (maybe more) during 2021.     Back to Articles News Back to Sections Hakeem Makes History By Samantha Alteri Volume 3 Issue 2 December 23, 2022 Image provided by NBC News Congressman Hakeem Jefferies, the Representative of New York’s 8th Congressional District since 2013, was recently selected to serve as the minority leader for House Democrats in the 118th Congress. Representative Jefferies, who currently serves as the Chairman of the House Democratic Caucus, is no stranger to leadership positions in the lower house. The former whip of the Congressional Black Caucus and prior co-chair of the Democratic Policy and Communications Committee, Jefferies will be the first Black American to lead a major political party in Congress. Jefferies will assume the slot in leadership currently held by Nancy Pelosi, the first female to serve as Speaker of the House. Shortly after the 2022 Midterm Elections, Pelosi announced her intention to step down from House leadership, signaling a change in Democratic politics. Not only did Pelosi step down, but the other top two Democratic leaders in the House did as well. Representative Steny Hoyer, the former majority leader representing Maryland’s 5th Congressional District, and James Clyburn, the whip from South Carolina’s 6th Congressional District, stepped down as well. Representative Katherine Clark, who serves as the Congresswoman of Massachusetts’s 5th District, will assume Clyburn’s former role, while Pete Aguilar, the Representative for California’s 31st District, and current Vice Chair of the Democratic Caucus, will assume the role of Democratic Caucus Chair. The transition to new Democratic leadership in the House represents a generation change for Congress. Current House Democratic leadership members are three decades older than Jefferies. This key move by Democrats was made just a few weeks after a midterm election in which Generation Z voters represented a large portion of the voting block for Democrats. These young, politically active voters moved to elect Democrats on a large scale, with a CNN House exit poll showing 63% of Generation Z voters cast ballots for the left. The move by House Democrats to place younger politicians in key leadership roles may resemble a desire to maintain large numbers of voter participation from this group of young constituents. Introduction Apple, one of the world’s most prevalent and prestigious technology companies, was founded on April 1st, 1967, in California by the infamous Steve Jobs and his good friend, Steve Wozniak. The initial goal of the company was to reinvent the computer, with its first product release being the Macintosh desktop computer, which essentially revolutionized the desktop computer industry. However, Apple’s goals have later shifted to creating a wide range of revolutionary technologies to shape the world and positively influence consumers, with the introduction of the iPod in 2001, the iPhone in 2007, the MacBook in 2008, the iPad and EarPods in 2010, and the Apple Watch and AirPods in 2017. Now, Apple is continuing to evolve, with the rumored release of its first augmented reality headsets, new AirPods, and new MacBooks. Furthermore, Apple is scheduled to announce its developments for its major operating system updates, including iOS (for iPhones), watchOS (for Apple Watches), iPadOS (for iPads), and macOS (for Mac computers). This article will present some information and leaks regarding the new updates and technologies that are scheduled to be released throughout the rest of the year. Keep in mind that the information presented is that of leaks and are not 100% certain to occur. June – WWDC Every year, on the second week of June, Apple hosts its WWDC event, or the Worldwide Developers Conference. At this weeklong event, Apple invites app developers to Apple Park, the company’s headquarters in Cupertino, CA, to discuss their developments and learn new techniques to develop their apps for Apple devices. Furthermore, on the first day of WWDC, Apple typically unveils its major operating system updates. This year, WWDC is scheduled to take place the week of June 6th, and iOS 16, watchOS 9, iPadOS 16, and macOS 13 (rumored to be named “Mammoth”) are expected to be announced. This article will highlight some leaks of all of Apple’s operating systems except macOS, since not much is known regarding its next major refresh. Currently, several features are rumored to be released in iOS 16. For example, LeaksApplePro, a reliable and accurate Apple update leaker on Twitter, presents evidence that iOS 16 may bring larger widget configurations to the iPhone, like those of iPadOS 15. They also rumor that FaceTime will adopt a more Zoom-like interface. William Gallagher, a writer for Apple Insider , found leaks that iOS 16 will contain accessibility features such as door detection for navigation, an Apple Watch mirroring feature due to the screen’s small size, and even live captions for video calls. Other leaks do exist, such as possible updates to notifications and car crash detection, but not enough specific details are yet available. For now, we must wait until June 6th for the reveal of iOS 16! Several significant features are rumored to be released in iPadOS 16 as well. For starters, it’s expected to be compatible with most iPads that were compatible with iPadOS 15, with many features unavailable due to outdated hardware. According to 9to5mac, an infamous Apple leak website, there are two significant features rumored to be released: “a new multitasking interface and revamped look for notifications.” Not much information is readily available regarding how notifications will be changed, but for multitasking, Pro iPad users have been requesting a more Mac-like interface to interact with multiple apps, and Apple may be acting on this request with iPadOS 16. This is all that is specifically known about iPadOS 16 for now, and like iOS 16, all we can do is wait to see what becomes a reality. In watchOS 9, a number of new features are rumored to be released that will change the way users interact with their Apple Watches. For example, according to macworld.com, the update is rumored to bring a low-power mode to the watch (similar to that of the iPhone), as well as an advanced atrial fibrillation health feature. Other expected features include new watch faces, possibly redesigned app interfaces, and improvements to the overall UI of watchOS to make it easier for users to use their watches. iPhone 14 and Apple Watch Series 8, anyone? In the fall of 2022, Apple is expected to release a number of new products, including a new iPhone and new smartwatch models. The next iPhone models, the iPhone 14 lineup, is expected to contain camera and display changes. It will feature a redesigned selfie camera and microphone, with each being a “hole punch” in the display to maximize screen real-estate (as seen in the newer Samsung models). Furthermore, the screen is rumored to stretch all the way to the edges, similar to how it does on the Apple Watch Series 7, making the bezzles almost invisible. It is also rumored that the rear cameras on the iPhone 14 will be more powerful than ever, with the wide rear camera having a resolution of up to 48 megapixels. Better low light performance in photos and videos is expected, as well as a faster chip (the A16 bionic), faster performance, and possibly USB-C charging (rather than lighting cable charging). The new Apple Watch Series 8 is rumored to have three models according to MacRumors: a 41 mm model, a 45 mm model, and a “rugged” model. All models are expected to have displays similar in geometry to that of the Apple Watch Series 7, and the “rugged” model is expected to have a flat display to increase its durability. Apple and AR/VR Apple has not been keeping up in the Augmented / Virtual Reality technology race, with companies such as Microsoft, Meta (formerly Facebook), and Google having already developed such technology. However, Apple is expected to release an ambitious product this fall or even as early as WWDC: its first Virtual Reality headset. Not much is known about the headset, but leaks show its design to be like those of other virtual reality headsets. What sets it apart from the others, however, is its quality: it is rumored to contain 8K displays in each lens, creating extremely fine resolutions in activities and games for users unlike any other virtual reality device in the market. Such a release has been heavily anticipated, and I can’t wait until it’s revealed, either in June or in the fall! 2023 and Beyond As you are probably aware, Apple is a company that constantly innovates and keeps its technology ahead of the competition, despite later release dates. Within the next few years, Apple is expected to continue releasing new smartwatch models, phones, laptops, PCs, tablets, and earbuds. Furthermore, Apple is expected to release its first Augmented Reality smart glasses within the next couple of years, a groundbreaking and anticipated product. Eventually, it is expected that the iPhone will no longer exist, and smart glasses will replace it and its functions.
